Testimonials from families and alumni

“There is already so much enthusiasm and excitement at DHCA. The other day I had a mother whose children are attending DHCA for the first year say to me, ‘Our whole family’s dynamics have changed. My children are finally free to be the people God designed them to be.’ It is that spirit that makes it all the more exciting to see what God has planned for the future of this school. With our enlarged campus and classrooms we will be better able to accommodate the future young people in Decatur and the surrounding areas.”

— Greg Stephenson, Board Chair

“As we look back over the six years we have been a part of Decatur Heritage, we are very thankful that we made the decision to be a part of such a wonderful educational partnership. We were not unhappy with the school we previously attended and the thought of paying to go to school was a bit foreign for us; however, making the change to DHCA was one of the best decisions we have made for our children and for our family. There are so many positives to being a part of the Heritage Team. No monetary value can be placed on giving the next generation the tools they need to make a difference.

THANKS DHCA — It has been a blessing for us and for our children.”

—The Joel McWhorter Family

“Decatur Heritage has been a real blessing to our family. Our first visit to the school itself actually clinched the decision to send our child there. Just walking down the hallway provided assurances that this was the place for our daughter. It was a clean and cheerful environment. Colorful projects with Bible verses adorned the bulletin boards and a quiet order seemed evident inside each of the classrooms. Our daughter started at DHCA in the third grade and she has really thrived. Thanks to her teachers, she has discovered the ‘adventure’ of reading and she now loves reading every night at bedtime. She also works hard for each assignment and has developed excellent study habits.”

“I am Jerrell Vinson and I attended Decatur Heritage Christian Academy from 1999-2002. I believe my choosing of Decatur Heritage is much different from any of the other students. Basketball was a pretty big deal to me and I wanted to play for a coach who had my best interest at heart. My family and I sat down and we discussed the pros and cons of each situation. In the end, I chose Decatur Heritage and I haven’t regretted the decision. My main reason for attending Decatur Heritage was for athletic purposes. But as time went on, I realized that God was leading me on a special path athletically and academically.

It has been six years since I said goodbye to the friends and faculty at Decatur Heritage. After I graduated from DHCA, I received a scholarship to play basketball at a junior college in Mississippi. After I graduated from junior college, I received an athletic scholarship from the University of North Alabama to play basketball. During the fall of 2006 I received my B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and Marketing. I am currently pursuing my MBA in Management. After graduating from college, I was fortunate to receive an offer of Regional Sales Manager with Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. I am the youngest person to be hired to this position.

God has been incredibly good to me, my family and my friends who have graduated from Decatur Heritage. DHCA has definitely laid the foundation for my life and I can’t thank the faculty enough for the hard work they have put in to make Decatur Heritage what it is today.”

“Life has been pretty exciting since my graduation from Decatur Heritage in 2002. I vividly remember the knot in my stomach as my best friends drove away toward their respective universities, and the day I showed up for orientation at Samford University. I left the familiar- Decatur and DHCA- where people knew my name, to a new chapter of life with new people and unfamiliar places. It was a thrilling time and I enjoyed making new friends and exploring a new city.

It is incredible to look back at the ways the Lord used one situation to lead to another, which led to another. DHCA led to Samford; Samford led to Texas, Texas to Michigan, Michigan to Guatemala. I never imagined that I would go the places I’ve gone or do the things I’ve done. God is so faithful, and He wants to make us more like Himself.

I received a solid education from DHCA, but the impact it made on me spiritually is what I am most thankful for. Many of my passions and abilities began to take form at Decatur Heritage, and I am still seeing God refine me and make me into the woman He wants.

I hope to go back to school in the near future to get a Master’s degree in Art Therapy and use art as a means to help people. Who knows what the future holds, but whatever happens, I won’t forget the wonderful ways that the Lord formed and changed me at Decatur Heritage.”

“Since 1995 Decatur Heritage Christian Academy has been providing children with an excellent education while instilling life-changing Biblical principles. DHCA combines advanced academics, strong athletic programs, and a non-denominational Christian environment to provide students with a well-rounded educational experience.

This relocation plan is the solution to provide increased benefits to our students — benefits of enhanced facilities and programs in a location that will be both secure and convenient for our families and for those yet to come.”
