SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Decatur Heritage Christian Academy is seeking a School Counselor. Candidates must demonstrate a mature commitment to Christ, have a passion for students and the ability to partner with parents supporting the social, emotional, and/or academic needs of their children.
The preferred Guidance Counselor candidate will:

Serve families of students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade.

Embody empathy for a diverse range of students and families

Excel at written and verbal communication

Have experience counseling students and families within educational settings encouraging sound and biblial problem-solving techniques

Help older students through the process of course registration and develop a four-year plan

Participate in establishing effective learning plans for students requiring academic interventions and support.

Have working knowledge of the college admissions process and be able to advise students as they apply to a variety of colleges

Have experience facilitating, supervising and interpreting testing in a school environment, including PSAT, PreACT, Iowa Testing, and AP exams.

Administrate the Dual Enrollment program for college credit for approved courses.

Have the ability to work as a team developing department goals and objectives, scheduling on-campus events, and collaborating with teachers and administrators in the best interest of students.

Qualifications:

A clear testimony of a personal saving relationship with Jesus Christ

A faithful member/attendee of a church whose beliefs align with the school's Statement of Faith

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; a degree in counseling is strongly preferred.

Strong professional or collegiate references

Counseling certification and previous experience in a school setting strongly preferred
