Job Title: Head Varsity Football Coach
Reports to: Athletic Director
Division: Staff
General Purpose:
The Decatur Heritage Christian Academy (DHCA) Head Varsity Football Coach will faithfully support DHCA’s mission statement by preparing the hearts and minds of student athletes in partnership with the home and church for service in God’s world. The Head Varsity Football Coach will oversee all coaches and athletes in the Varsity Boys Football program and ensure the overall development of the program from the middle school level through the high school level.
Scope:
This person interacts directly with coaches, parents, and students as a representative of DHCA. The supervision of a coordinated program and oversight of assistant and sub-varsity coaches are essential in this role.
Job Responsibilities:
We are looking for a Head Varsity Football Coach teacher who is a committed follower of Jesus, called to coach in a Christian school setting who can build our program and integrate faith with coaching. Though not required, it would be ideal for our Head Coach to be a part of the school community during the day as a full or part time teacher or staff member.

Develop a plan for spiritual discipleship and athletic excellence at all levels of the program, ensuring that Christ is in the center of each team

Engage students, colleagues, parents, and opponents honorably with a commitment to exhibit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control.

Maintain a spiritual and professional environment at all levels of the program

Hire mission-aligned, Christian assistant and sub-varsity coaches with the approval of the A.D.

Supervise the coaching staff at all levels in the program to ensure athletes are growing spiritually, athletically, and socially

Operate within the annual football budget

Inform and, as needed, assist the athletic director in purchasing needs and equipment for the year

Actively seek opportunities to raise financial support for items and equipment with approval and collaboration of the Athletic Director

Provide yearly evaluations for all coaches in the program to the Athletic Director

Attend mandatory meetings as directed by the Athletic Director or Head of School

Abide by and cooperate with the AHSAA rules and regulations

Partner with the administration to ensure all assistant coaches and sub-varsity coaches have successfully completed and passed appropriate background checks and coaching certifications prior to involvement in the program

Plan, organize, and conduct all on- and off-season tryouts, workouts, practices, and games in collaboration with the Athletic Director and Upper School Principal.

Work with the A.D. and trainer in regards to mandatory student paperwork that athletes must have completed prior to the first official practice date

Partner with the trainer as needed for emergency care, injuries, and first aid as needed

Complete an inventory of equipment and uniforms at the conclusion of each season

Report scores and stats to the media or other outlets as directed by the Athletic Director

Market your players to the media and provide opportunities for college placement

Encourage football players, as student athletes to participate in more than one sport at DHCA

Work cooperatively with other DHCA programs and teams

Create opportunities for off-season training and conditioning

Coordinate coaching and player assignments for away games, as well as ensuring supervision when traveling off campus for games/practices

Assist the Athletic Director with the sports banquet and signing days

Keep stats for each game to ensure student/athlete records are documented and accurate for future years

Experience successfully coaching football in High School, College, or Professional

Excellent management and organizational skills

Desire to help and serve others as a team player

Communicate and collaborate with coaches, parents, students, and teachers

Bachelors degree or higher preferred

Teaching Certificate preferred
Schedule & Physical Requirements:

Work schedule will vary and may involve irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Frequent travel to away games required during the football season

Work is largely in an outdoor setting and will require long periods of standing
