Camp Heritage Announcement

Dear Families,
As we begin to see the finish line for this school year, we are already making plans for the future of our school. We are always striving to meet the needs of our families, while looking forward to what the future will look like with what programs we will offer, what new opportunities we will have with the new facility, and what areas we need to change or improve. For over 20 years we have offered our Summer Camp Heritage program, a daily childcare program for approximately 55 DHCA students and other children from our
community. We have had tremendous success in the history of the program, allowing campers to have a safe and fun place to spend their summer while their parents work. Over the years, it has become more and more difficult to find qualified counselors and bus drivers. This lack of available staffing has caused our current leaders and staff to work long hours, accruing many hours of overtime, causing camp expenses to go up significantly, and negatively impacting our annual budget.

In addition to the staffing and expense issues, our Camp Director, Mrs. Teresa Hall, will be unable to direct our camp this year due to an upcoming surgery for her husband. Mrs. Hall’s husband, Dale, will be having knee replacement surgery at the end of May, and will require assistance with his recovery, appointments and therapy over the following 6-8 weeks. Mrs. Hall has been so dedicated to this program over the years, and it is difficult for her to step away, but she knows this is what is needed for her family.

Because of all these issues, we have decided to put a pause on our Summer Camp Heritage program and use this summer to look at what the future of our summer programs will look like. We are sad that our wonderful campers will not be with us this summer, our halls will definitely be quieter, but this is in the best interest of the school as we further assess the current challenges. In addition, we have some much-needed maintenance and improvements that need to be addressed this summer so that we are in our best form for the next school year. We thank you for your prayers as we address these changes to our operations and look forward to being able to have new and exciting summer programs in the future.

In His service,
